Virginia Tech upsets Miami

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Nov. 3 | Dick's Stock Watch provides a fast-glance review of the past week in the world of sports, charting whose stock is up and whose is down...

Virginia Tech -- The Hokies made up for a loss to West Virginia by dismantling Miami, 31-7. Frank Beamer's defense really came to play. Where were the Hokies against the Mountaineers, baby? It was blowout city versus the Hurricanes.

Indianapolis Colts -- Now 7-1 after beating the Dolphins in Miami. Peyton Manning has done such a great job for the Colts, he's one of the league's top MVP candidates.

Dallas Cowboys -- Coach Parcells and his 'Boys are now 6-2 after beating the Redskins. Dallas has done a super job turning things around in a short time. As for the Redskins, I don't know if Coach Spurrier is working out; he belongs back on a college campus.

Chris Perry -- The Michigan running back said give me the pigskin and carried the ball 51 times for 219 yards in a key Big Ten win over Michigan State.

Florida State -- The Seminoles destroyed Notre Dame 37-0. Craphonso Thorpe caught seven passes for 217 yards. It was an M&M'er: a total mismatch.

Rashard Lewis -- The Sonics' small forward scored 50 points in Friday's win over the Clippers in Japan.

Ron Zook -- Earlier this season, nobody gave him a chance. Now, Florida tallied another big win by beating Georgia. The Gators also beat Arkansas and LSU after a slow start.

Boston Red Sox -- Manager Grady Little deserved to be retained. He won 95 games while keeping the clubhouse in order and the egos in check. Shame on Larry Lucchino, John Henry and Theo Epstein for firing Little. All coaches and managers should be upset with this decision.

Charles Woodson -- Is his game as good as his mouth? After Sunday's loss to the Lions, the Oakland Raiders are now just 2-6, and the Lions entered the contest just 1-6. I don't remember Woodson complaining about coach Bill Callahan last season when the team was winning. Shut up and play, Mr. Woodson. As a former coach, I always feel that internal problems should be addressed behind closed doors and not with the media.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- The Bucs are now 4-4 after a home loss to the New Orleans Saints. What about getting back into the playoffs?

Miami Heat -- Out of the gate 0-3, the Heat have struggled. Maybe Pat Riley knew something when he resigned.
