Stock up: Marlins split

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Oct. 20 | Dick's Stock Watch provides a fast-glance review of the past week in the world of sports, charting whose stock is up and whose is down...

Florida Marlins -- Even though the New York Yankees won Game 2 of the World Series (and Andy Pettitte was masterful), the Florida Marlins' stock is up for splitting in New York. Juan Pierre and Dontrelle Willis were the stars in that opening-game victory.

Minnesota Vikings -- The Vikings are 6-0 after beating the Broncos. Coach Mike Tice's club has won nine straight if you go back to last year. Minnesota has scored 23 or more points in every game, and the Vikes were glad to have Daunte Culpepper back. Randy Moss caught 10 passes for 151 yards against Denver and he's playing like the Moss of old.

Carnell "Cadillac" Williams -- Auburn RB Carnell Williams scored six touchdowns in a rout of Mississippi State. The Tigers have been on fire after starting the season 0-2. I'll call him Rolls Royce Williams -- he may be the best back in America that nobody knows anything about.

LaDainian Tomlinson -- Tomlinson rushed for 200 yards as the Chargers finally broke into the win column, beating the Browns.

Michigan State -- The Spartans remain hot, beating Minnesota on the road. What a job being done by John L. Smith at East Lansing.

Mississippi -- Mississippi is 3-0 in the SEC for the first time since 1970, when Archie Manning was at QB. Now it is his son Eli leading the way.

Chicago Cubs -- I love Dusty Baker, but the Cubbies' stock is down after blowing a 3-1 series lead in the NLCS.

Notre Dame -- I hate to say this, and I'm going to cry ... Notre Dame was blown out at home by USC. It was the second straight year the Irish lost to USC by 30 or more points.

New York Giants -- The Giants blew it against the Philadelphia Eagles. First it was three straight plays up the middle, gaining virtually no yards, playing more not to lose than to win. They blew it by punting the ball in-bounds late in the game, leading to a Brian Westbrook 84-yard game winning punt return for a touchdown. The Giants are last in the NFC East and three games behind the Cowboys. Special teams didn't get the job done.

Atlanta Falcons -- They are screaming in Atlanta: we need Vick, we need Vick! They need more than Vick -- the Falcons have been a disaster. They have suffered six straight losses, allowing 207 points in those six defeats.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- It also hurts me to talk about the defending Super Bowl champion Bucs (now 3-3). The offense didn't show up in a loss to the Niners. I will see Tampa Bay beat Dallas this week.
