Farmer, Coach K, Syracuse nab weekly awards

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Farmer
Desmon Farmer lit up the Wildcats for 40 points.

Desmon Farmer had quite a performance in a 99-90 upset over Arizona on Thursday. He finished with 40 points, which tied for the fifth-highest point total in school history and the most since Harold Miner scored 43 in 1991. Farmer was 11-of-19 from the field, including 7-of-11 from 3-point range, and 11-of-12 from the free-throw line. Proving he was no fluke, he scored 26 points on Saturday in a loss to Arizona State.

Coach Jim Boeheim's team proved it could win outside the state of New York with two tough road victories. First, the Orangemen scored a 14-point win at Missouri. Then, Syracuse followed up with an 11-point triumph at Notre Dame. Forward Hakim Warrick had a big week with a combined 40 points in the two wins.

Coach K treated the Thursday night game against NC State, followed by the Saturday afternoon game against Wake Forest, like an NCAA Tournament scenario. Duke used a suffocating defense to walk away with a pair of double-digit wins. The Blue Devils held Wolfpack forward Julius Hodge to seven points and seven turnovers. Coach K's team is rolling with 11 consecutive victories since losing to Purdue in the Great Alaska Shootout championship game.

Wow! Kentucky had won 21 straight against SEC opponents before the Bulldogs pulled off shock city at Rupp Arena. Guard Rashad Wright had 20 points as Georgia bounced back from two blowout SEC losses. Coach Dennis Felton should be applauded for having his team prepared and playing stellar defense. The Wildcats only scored seven points in the first 10 minutes and never got on track offensively.

McKowen, a 6-2 guard, came up big in an upset of Creighton, hitting 6-of-7 trifectas and scoring 24 points.
