EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New Jersey Devils forward Sergei Nemchinov, who needed 40 stitches in his forehead after getting checked into the boards in Game 5, will not play Wednesday against Philadelphia, a team spokesman said. The Devils said Nemchinov does not have a concussion and is day to day.

Nemchinov, who suffered the injury after striking a metal partition in the second period of Game 5 Monday night, passed a medical examination Tuesday.

The cut was the second major one in the best-of-seven series, which the Flyers lead 3-2.

John LeClair, who checked Nemchinov when he was hurt, needed 39 stitches to close a cut on his nose and under his eye after being hit by the stick of Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur in Game 3.

LeClair did not miss the next game.
