NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Petr Nedved snapped a tie midway through the third period as the New York Rangers earned a 2-1 exhibition victory over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Newcomer Theo Fleury also scored and rookie Milan Hnilicka stopped all eight shots he faced for the Rangers, who improved their preseason record to 4-2.

The Flyers played without stars Eric Lindros, John LeClair and Rod Brind'Amour and remained one of four winless teams at 0-3.

Nedved took a cross-ice pass from John MacLean in front of the right faceoff dot and snapped a wrist shot over rookie Brian Boucher's right shoulder with 9:10 left.

Fleury tied it 8:34 into the first period, blasting a slap shot from the blue line through traffic and past Boucher.

Hnilicka, who will start the season in the minors, played only the third period and improved to 3-0. He stopped a series of shots in tight with less than four minutes left to secure the win.

Mark Greig opened the scoring 7:01 into the game with his first preseason goal. He skated behind the net and grabbed a loose puck at the right goalpost before sliding it past a diving Mike Richter.

Richter stopped 24 of 25 shots over the first two periods. Boucher played the entire game and made 30 saves.
