RUSTON, La. -- Brooke Lassiter scored 20 points, and Ayana Walker added 15 points and 14 rebounds in leading Louisiana Tech (No. 8 ESPN/USA Today, No. 9 AP) to a 69-52 victory over Chattanooga in Friday night's first round of the Preseason NIT Tournament.
Tech (1-0), ranked third in the nation in last season's final
poll, was held to a 31-29 halftime advantage before outscoring
Chattanooga (0-1) by 38-23 in the second half.
The Lady Techsters, held to just 35 percent shooting (13-of-37)
in the first half, made 56 percent (15-of-27) of their field goals
in the second half while holding Chattanooga to 32 percent accuracy
(9-of-28).
Amber Obaze and substitute Kenya Bibbs added 10 points apiece
for Tech.
Damita Bullock had 20 points, Nneka Irons 12 and substitute
Tishay Lewis 10 for Chattanooga.
