RALEIGH, N.C. -- Kourtney Shreve scored her only four points
in the final 41 seconds as Oregon beat 50-47 on Sunday in the final of GlaxoWellcome Invitational.
Oregon (2-0, No. 24 Associated Press), which defeated a higher ranked team for the second
consecutive in a row, missed six shots in a row as N.C. State (1-1; No. 18 ESPN/USA Today; No. 19 AP) went a
17-6 run for a 46-45 lead with just more than two minutes left.
Shreve drove along the right baseline for the go-ahead basket
with 41 seconds left, then hit two free throws with 13.4 seconds
left after Alyssa Fredrick blocked Carisse Moody's shot at the
other end. N.C. State missed two 3-point attempts in the final 10
seconds.
Angelina Wolvert led Oregon with 22 points and Jamie Craighead
added 12. Moody led N.C. State with 17 points, eight rebounds and
three steals.
N.C. State shot just 27 percent, but out-rebounded Oregon by 12
and forced 24 turnovers.
Oregon turned a 24-21 halftime lead into a 10-point margin early
in the second half. Wolvert had six points in the 9-2 run.
The Ducks led 40-30 after a Jenny Mowe basket with 10:05 to
play, but missed eight of 11 shots and had eight turnovers in 16
possessions as N.C. State closed to three points.
Oregon beat No. 16 Wisconsin 71-57 Saturday in the second round.
