EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Rachel Byars' 27 points, 11 rebounds
and six steals led Boston College to a 63-61 victory over Michigan
State in the title game of the MSU Chevrolet Classic on Saturday
night.
In the consolation game, Jolie McKeirnan had 19 points and 10
rebounds as Arkansas State defeated Tennessee Tech 71-61.
Amber Jacobs and Janelle McManus scored 14 points apiece for the
Eagles (2-0) and combined for seven 3-point baskets. Boston College (No. 22 ESPN/USA Today) tied the tournament single-game record with nine 3-pointers and set
the two-game tournament record with 15.
Vremina Reese scored 15 points to lead the Spartans, who opened
their season Friday night with a 76-50 win over Arkansas State in
Joanne McCallie's coaching debut.
The Lady Indians (1-1) fared better Saturday, taking a 36-17
halftime lead and extending their margin to 21 points, 62-41, with
5:37 to play. Natalie Goodall had 17 points for Arkansas State.
Janet Holt led Tennessee Tech (0-2) with 28 points and 10
rebounds.
