OUTLOOK First round: Lost to Stanford, 84-65
It's a daunting task for South Carolina State in the first round against top-seeded Stanford. The Bulldogs have played some major conference teams, beating Clemson on the road and losing by six to Villanova, but they will have tremendous trouble against a big team like Stanford.
South Carolina State is a pretty balanced team. The Bulldogs' best player is guard Mike Wiatre. He's their leading scorer, a tremendous shooter who plays with a lot of gumption. Other than Wiatre, their best player is James Jones, a diversified scorer.
In the post the Bulldogs have 6-foot-10 Duane Johnson and Dexter Hall, but they will have a difficult time with the overpowering front line of Stanford. Arthur Carlisle is a physical presence on the front line. The Bulldogs start five seniors, are reasonably athletic and shoot a lot of 3-pointers. -- Bob Wenzel, ESPN
