ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- Bobby Simmons scored 20 points and
Imari Sawyer added 18 points and 10 assists as No. 21 DePaul beat Florida
State 80-74 Friday in a Great Alaska Shootout consolation game.
Sawyer, a freshman, hit a 12-foot jumper from the wing to stem a
Florida State rally after the Seminoles closed to 73-70 on two 3-pointers by Adrian Crawford with three minutes left.
DePaul then scored its final five points on free throws.
The first 15 minutes featured five ties and eight lead changes.
The Seminoles (0-3) stayed close by outrebounding the Blue
Demons 39-31.
Nigel Dixon, the Seminoles' 350-pound center, scored 10
first-half points on putbacks and a variety of power moves. He only
had two points after halftime.
Simmons hit two 3-pointers just before the break to give DePaul
a a 43-34 lead.
DePaul (2-1), which lost 92-84 to Syracuse on Thursday, scored
two quick baskets in the second half to open a 13-point lead. The
Blue Demons then started sending the ball inside to forward Lance
Williams, who finished with 17 points.
Crawford led Florida State with 14 points.
