LOS ANGELES (AP) _ The defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers fell to 0-4 in the preseason as Andre Miller led the Cleveland Cavaliers with 19 points in a 91-84 victory Thursday night.

Kobe Bryant scored 18 points for the Lakers, who are the only team in the league without a victory this preseason. Foul-plagued Shaquille O'Neal finished with 13 points and eight rebounds in 27 minutes.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas had 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Cavaliers (1-3), who never trailed after taking a 41-40 lead on Chris Gatling's tip-in with 52 seconds left in the first half. They extended their margin to 59-47 with a 16-6 run, capped by a three-point play by Ilgauskas with five minutes left in the third quarter.

O'Neal returned to the court with 10:02 left in the game, but Clarence Weatherspoon hit a 17-footer, Ilgauskas made a layup and Lamond Murray converted a three-point play with 6:24 left to give Cleveland its biggest lead, 75-61.

Los Angeles got as close as 87-84 on two free throws by Bryant, but Miller clinched it with a pair of foul shots.

The Lakers, who started the preseason 0-3 for the first time since 1983-84, trailed 43-40 at halftime after blowing a 12-point lead. O'Neal picked up his fourth foul with 3:40 left in the half, then was assessed his fifth with 7:39 left in the third quarter and Los Angeles down 47-41.

Despite a crowd of 15,717 who welcomed the Lakers back to Staples Center for the first time since they clinched the NBA title, coach Phil Jackson gave substantial minutes to several hopefuls who aren't expected to be on the opening-night roster.

At one point in the second quarter, Bryant was running the floor with four players who have yet to play a regular-season NBA game _ Cory Hightower, Mike Penberthy, Stanislav Medvedenko and first-round draft pick Mark Madsen.

The Cavaliers, one of four teams in the Lakers' annual preseason tournament, will play Golden State in the early game of Friday night's doubleheader before the Lakers play Seattle. The Warriors beat the SuperSonics 117-113 earlier Thursday.
