ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) _ Rodney Rogers scored 18 points to lead the Phoenix Suns to an 86-78 preseason victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night.

Lakers center Shaquille O'Neal scored 28 points and Kobe Bryant added 21 as the defending NBA champions, winless in the preseason, lost their third straight.

Los Angeles pulled to within 80-78 with 2:40 remaining as O'Neal made three consecutive baskets. However, Suns forward Daniel Santiago's jumper at the top of the key with 1:27 remaining started Phoenix on a 6-0 run.

Cliff Robinson scored 15 points as the Suns improved to 2-2 in the preseason.

Phoenix never trailed in a game that was tied just once, at 2-2 in the first minute of play.

Rogers, who entered the game seven minutes into the first quarter with Phoenix leading 17-15, scored 13 first-half points and helped the Suns to a 53-46 halftime lead.

Los Angeles trailed by as much as 15 points early in the second half before O'Neal got the Lakers back into the game.
