The WNBA held a one-round dispersal draft on Thursday, involving players from the now-defunct Miami Sol and the Portland Fire.
The Detroit Shock added former Sol center Ruth Riley with the No. 1 pick. The Minnesota Lynx selected former Sol guard Sheri Sam with the second selection, followed by the Cleveland Rockers' selection of former Sol guard Betty Lennox. Guard Tamicha Jackson was the first former Fire player selected, by Phoenix at the fourth spot. Jackie Stiles was the last player selected, at No. 14 by Los Angeles. In all, 26 players were available, and teams made their selections in inverse order of their 2002 regular-season finishes. All players not selected -- including former Stanford standouts Kristin Folkl, Vanessa Nygaard and Lindsey Yamasaki -- will become unrestricted free agents once a collective bargaining agreement is signed.
