Sparks beat Storm in tuneup for Houston

  RECAP | BOX SCORE

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) -- Lisa Leslie had 18 points and seven rebounds as the Los Angeles Sparks tuned up for Saturday's showdown against the Houston Comets with a 76-63 victory Thursday over the Seattle Storm.

DeLisha Milton scored 13 points, and Tamecka Dixon, Allison Feaster and Mwadi Mabika added 10 each as Los Angeles (23-3) won its seventh straight game and 19th of 20.

Los Angeles suffered an embarrassing 69-59 overtime loss against Seattle on June 13 and had lost twice this season to expansion clubs. But it did not fall into that trap again and owns a one-game lead over Houston atop the Western Conference.

The Sparks visit the second-place Comets on Saturday and will attempt to sweep the three-game season series. They are 0-8 all-time in Houston, including postseason.

"Here we come," Sparks coach Michael Cooper said. "We've beaten them twice and I'm pretty sure they've had this date penciled in and here we come."

"We're a different team and this is a different year and we're looking forward to the challenge," Leslie said.

Sonja Henning scored a career-high 19 points -- including six 3-pointers -- for Seattle (4-21), which lost for the eighth time in nine games. Simone Edwards added 12 points, and Kamila Vodichkova 10 for the Storm.

Los Angeles led 39-28 at halftime, and Seattle was unable to get any closer than 11 points in the second half.

Henning's two 3's, and a third by Edna Campbell, capped a 9-3 run with 4:04 left.

Los Angeles took the lead for good with a 9-1 run putting them up 19-12 with 11:10 remaining in the first half.

Dixon and Mabika each made 3-pointers as the Sparks outscored Seattle 12-3 to increased the lead to 33-19 with 4:10 left in the half.
