PHOENIX (Ticker) -- Brandy Reed should have saved this one for the WNBA All-Star Game. Reed scored 31 points, including seven during a decisive surge, as the Phoenix Mercury held on for an 86-76 victory over the Utah Starzz, who had their three-game winning streak snapped. No one had a more eventful All-Star break than Reed, Phoenix's leading scorer at 17.6 points per game. Initially snubbed for the All-Star Game, she was added by the league after fans in Phoenix threatened to boycott the game. As the first player off the bench for the Western Conference, Reed had a game to forget Monday. She scored only three points on 1-of-11 shooting, but came back strong Wednesday. The 6-foot-1 forward made 10-of-16 shots, 9-of-9 free throws and had the first seven points in a 9-2 surge that turned a three-point game into a 64-54 lead with 7:25 remaining. The Mercury were without coach Cheryl Miller, who is recovering after having left knee surgery Monday. She will be on crutches for four weeks.
