MIAMI (Ticker) -- The expansion Miami Sol made 5-of-6 free throws in the final 52 seconds as they overcame a second-half drought and defeated the Cleveland Rockers, 49-46, for the second time this season.

The Sol snapped a three-game home losing streak and their last two victories here have come against Cleveland. The Rockers have dropped seven of their last 10 after a 5-1 start and trail first-place Orlando by 2 1/2 games in the Eastern Conference.

Marlies Askamp hit a layup with 2:58 remaining as Miami took the lead for good, 44-43. Following a series a misses, Katrina Colleton and rookie Kristen Rasmussen made two free throws apiece as the Sol opened a 48-43 cushion with 25 seconds left.

Merlakia Jones hit Cleveland's first basket in more than two minutes as her 3-pointer with 15 seconds left cut the deficit to 48-46. Rookie Milena Flores bumped the cushion to three by making 1-of-2 from the line.

The Rockers could not get a good look at the potential tying basket and reserve Vicki Hall missed a 16-footer as time expired. Cleveland has averaged only 47 points in two meetings with Miami.

Outscored 19-18 over the final 20 minutes, Miami ended a 7 1/2-minute drought without a basket when forward Sharon Manning made a layup with 6:28 left. She scored a season-high 13 points and was the only player in double figures for the Sol.

"I felt good out there," Manning said. "I've been playing with these girls for about 13 games and I just wanted to go out there and do whatever I can."

"Having Sharon in the game took some pressure off of (Askamp)," Sol coach Ron Rothstein said. "Sharon had given us some good minutes off the bench and the time had come to move her up."

Mery Andrade scored 10 points and Jones and Chasity Melvin added nine apiece for Cleveland, which has dropped five straight road games and is 2-6 away from home this season.

"We had a good shot at winning the game, but we just didn't knock the shots down," Andrade said. "We have to finish games at the end."

"The key parts of the game were where we made stops and were unable to convert," Rockers coach Dan Hughes said. "We didn't pass particularly well, but our defense showed up strong in the second half."

Miami made just 6-of-19 shots in the second half with Cleveland hitting only 7-of-24. The Sol shot 37.5 percent (18-of-48) overall, slightly better than their league-worst average and won for the second time in three contests.

Cleveland hit just 4-of-6 from the line while Miami was 12-of-15. No one made more than four baskets for the Rockers, who shot 39.6 percent (19-of-48) from the field.
