BOX SCORE
SALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- Natalie Williams scored a season-high 30 points, one shy of a career best, as the Utah Starzz survived a furious finish for their second straight victory, 70-67 over the Washington Mystics. Williams scored six points during an 8-0 run, including two free throws with 1:53 left to cap the run and give the Starzz a 65-55 lead. But Washington closed to 67-65 with 16 seconds left on Nikki McCray's jumper to end a 10-2 spurt. Rookie Stacy Frese put Utah ahead, 69-65, on a pair of free throws with 15 seconds to play. McCray scored a driving layup with 8.4 seconds left, bringing her team back within two. Kate Starbird hit 1-of-2 free throws with seven seconds left, giving Utah a three-point lead, but Vicky Bullett's 3-pointer from the top of the key bounced off the back of the rim as time expired. Williams, who scored 31 points against Detroit on July 6 of last season, shot 10-of-14 from the floor, made 10-of-12 free throws and grabbed 13 rebounds. Adrienne Goodson added 14 points as the Starzz moved to 4-2 at home and closed a 2-1 homestand. Washington failed in its bid to win a third straight road game for the first time in club history. It also had a chance to move into first place in the Eastern Conference with Cleveland losing earlier tonight, but remained one-half game out. | ALSO SEE WNBA Scoreboard RECAPS Minnesota 69 Phoenix 62
