Better baseball through exercise

Preventing baseball injuries can be as simple as wearing a helmet while batting, or as complex as applying proper mechanics when you are throwing a side-arm curveball with runners on base.

Baseball may be the one non-contact sport that features contact on every play -- be it bat hitting ball, ball hitting glove, ball hitting player or, occasionally, player colliding with player.

To guard against any of these leaving you with bumps and bruises, or worse, it is important to know what gear to wear to protect yourself, and what skills you need to learn to ensure your muscles and joints are not over-stressed.

As in any athletic pursuit, conditioning plays a major role in preventing injuries. Stretching and strengthening your muscles and joints is every bit as important as learning how to hit behind the runner or throw a full-count changeup.
