ZURICH, Switzerland -- The United States will open the 2002 Davis Cup at home against Slovakia.

Thursday's draw also paired France against the Netherlands, Australia against Argentina, Switzerland against Russia, and Croatia against Germany. The other first-round matchups are Spain against Morocco, Brazil against the Czech Republic, and Britain against Sweden.

The U.S. team lost 3-2 at Basel, Switzerland, in the first round of this year's tournament.

To get back into the World Group, the United States had to win a qualifier, which it did last weekend by beating India 4-1 in Winston-Salem, N.C.

France plays Australia for this year's Davis Cup championship in Melbourne on Nov. 30-Dec. 2.
