AMSTERDAM, the Netherlands – Former Wimbledon champion Richard
Kracijek of the Netherlands will miss next month's Davis Cup
quarterfinal against Germany with a stubborn elbow injury.
The towering serve-and-volleyer has not played a competitive
singles match since last October.
"In Miami it became clear that Richard has still not
recovered from the lingering injury to his elbow," Dutch Davis
Cup captain Tjerk Bogstra said in a statement Monday.
"It's very annoying for him ... he really wanted to play in
Den Bosch."
Krajicek has only played once competitively this year – a
first-round doubles defeat in Indian Wells, Calif., with partner Sjeng Schalken earlier this month.
The Dutch lineup for the April 6-8 quarterfinal is Paul
Haarhuis, Schalken, Jan Siemerink and Raemon Sluiter, Bogstra
said.
"I have every confidence in the team as it looks now. The
players showed what they could do when they played Spain," said
Bogstra.
The Netherlands trounced defending champions Spain 4-1 in
the Davis Cup world group opening round in February. Krajicek,
who won Wimbledon in 1996, was absent.
