'X' hits the spot
By Rob Dibble

"X-Men" was tremendous. From the costumes and sets to the acting, this movie really delivered.

I've read the comic book series that the movie is based on, and my son has all the action figures. I was ready for this movie, and it did not disappoint. A lot of bad movies have come from comic books, but this one is a winner.

Patrick Stewart, known to most people as Captain Jean-Luc Picard on "Star Trek: The Next Generation," is fantastic as Professor Xavier (or X) who has telepathic powers. Hugh Jackman was also tremendous as Wolverine. The special effects on his character were especially cool, from his metal claws and his remarkable self-healing and regenerative powers.

Rebecca Romjin-Stamos was also excellent as Mystique, whose power is the ability to take anyone's form. I heard that her makeup took six hours to put on each day. Well, it was worth it.

The only problem I had with the movie was that it was too short. But that's probably OK. When the movie ended, I felt the way I feel at the end of a good comic book. I want to read the next one immediately.

Dibble's scorecard: Three out of four baseballs.
