Oshoniyi shuts down Earthquakes

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Bo Oshoniyi recorded a shutout in his first start of the season for Kansas City as the Wizards beat the San Jose Earthquakes 3-0 on Wednesday night in Major League Soccer.

Francisco Gomez, Vicente Figueroa and Chris Henderson scored goals to help the Wizards improve their MLS-best record to 14-6-6. San Jose has lost six straight to drop to 5-14-8.

Oshoniyi, starting for the Wizards because Tony Meola was called up to the U.S. national team for a match against Barbados on Wednesday, has three career MLS shutouts. In 1996, he had two shutouts in 13 games for the Columbus Crew.

Gomez opened the scoring in the 17th minute with his second career goal, Figueroa added his first career goal in the 24th, and Henderson scored his eighth goal of the year in the 79th.

San Jose dropped to 5-14-8.
