SAN JOSE, California (Ticker) -- Wolde Harris scored a goal and set up the other Saturday as the resurgent New England Revolution edged the San Jose Earthquakes, 2-1.

Juergen Sommer made seven saves to earn his second straight victory on the heels of New England's six-game losing streak. The veteran goalkeeper made several big stops to preserve the win, including a sliding save on a deflected blast by Dario Brose from 20 yards in the 71st minute.

New England took the lead for good in the 63th minute, taking advantage of a second major defensive error by San Jose. Harris dribbled down the right wing and looked to play a long ball into the box, but the pass went too long and toward the goal.

Goalkeeper Joe Cannon mishandled it on one bounce and fell back toward the net as the game-winner trickled over the line.

San Jose had several chances to equalize in the final minutes. Midfielder Harut Karapetyan volleyed a pair of shots just over the crossbar as time wound down.

The Revolution got on the board first, capitalizing on a turnover at midfield. Harris pounced on a misplayed ball and immediately found a streaking William Sunsing just outside the box. Sunsing rushed into the box unmarked and easily beat Cannon with a low shot for his first MLS goal.

San Jose tied it moments after the second half began. Midfielder Khodadad Azizi sent Mike Burns into the box on the left side. Burns cut to the middle and found a streaking Karapetyan, who blasted a shot off Sommer.

Wojtek Krakowiak collected the rebound and easily slotted home his fourth goal of the season from 12 yards.

New England featured a revamped look on defense. With central defenders Mauricio Wright (yellow card accumulation) and Brian Dunseth (groin strain) out, Harkes assumed the sweeper's role for the first time in his career. He controlled a solid Revs defense that featured rookies Rusty Pierce and Adam Eyre.
