Rapids pull even in closing seconds

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Matt Okoh's 12-yard header in the closing seconds of second-half injury time Saturday gave the Colorado Rapids a 1-1 tie with D.C. United.

Okoh leaped to beat a crowd to Anders Limpar's long ball cross and send it past goalkeeper Mark Simpson in the third minute of injury time. It was Okoh's second goal of the season for Colorado (8-9-2).

United played overtime without second-leading scorer Marco Etcheverry, whom coach Thomas Rongen replaced with a defender in the 86th minute when leading 1-0.

D.C. United (4-11-5) dominated play throughout the game, coming up with numerous scoring chances. United had 10 of the game's 13 shots on goal and outshot Colorado 19-9 overall.

Bobby Convey, a 17-year-old forward who was the youngest player ever signed by the MLS, got his first career point for United, making a beautiful left-footed cross that Raul Diaz Arce dove to head in four minutes after halftime.

Convey, 16 when the season began, was making his eighth start.
