COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Jason Farrell scored in the 72nd minute Saturday, giving the Columbus Crew a 1-1 tie with the Dallas Burn in Major League Soccer.
Farrell's shot from about 12 yards out went off the left
goalpost and into the net, just out of reach of Burn goalkeeper
Matt Jordan.
Columbus' only good scoring opportunity after that came when the
Crew's Jeff Cunningham had a shot that went off the right post four
minutes later.
Aleksey Korol of the Burn opened the scoring in the fourth
minute, assisted by Paul Broome and Oscar Pareja. Broome beat two
defenders and passed back to Korol, whose shot found the right
corner of the net from eight yards out.
Each team had 12 shots, but Dallas led 6-3 in shots on goal.
Matt Napoleon had five saves in goal for Columbus, while Jordan had
two.
The tie enabled Columbus (5-7-3) to stay third in the MLS
Central Division, one point ahead of Dallas (5-8-2). The one point
for the tie was the first for Dallas on the road this season after
six straight losses.
