McDonough named VP of ad sales for EIG

J. Riley McDonough has been named vice president of advertising sales for ESPN Internet Group (EIG), part of Walt Disney Internet Group (NYSE:DIG). McDonough will be based in EIG's New York office and will report to Scott Schiller, senior vice president of branded advertising and sponsorship sales, Walt Disney Internet Group.

"Riley comes to us armed with a broad and experienced sales background that will be critical as we seek to expand our leadership role in providing advertisers with the most effective marketing vehicles," said Schiller.

"We will turn to Riley in our continued efforts to develop even more effective ways of giving clients the most value for their buy, including our innovative 'Big Impression' ad unit," said John Skipper, senior vice president and general manager, ESPN Internet Group.

McDonough is responsible for advertising sales, sponsorships, and the development of strategic partnership programs for EIG sites, including ESPN.com, the most popular sports Web site, the official sites of the NFL and NASCAR, Soccernet and EXPN.com. He also oversees the preparation of integated packages involving other Walt Disney Internet Group sites, as well as other ESPN media properties including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Classic, ESPN Radio, ESPN The Magazine, ESPNNEWS Network and ESPN International.

Most recently, McDonough had been vice president of sales and marketing for eCal Corporation, a leading Internet application service provider. Prior to that, he was senior vice president, corporate development, at iPing, Inc., responsible for the hiring and development of the sales, corporate development, and marketing departments. IPing was sold to eCal in April 2000.

Earlier, McDonough was executive vice president, sales and commerce at Spinner.com, where he supervised every aspect of sales, promotion, research and e-commerce. From July 1993 to June 1998, McDonough was at Inc. Magazine, rising to the post of publisher. Previously, he worked in sales for Newsweek magazine, Wenner Media, Meredith Corporation and Hearst Corporation.

McDonough was graduated from Iona College in 1972 with a B.A. in Communication Arts.
