Clayton expands ESPN duties to include ESPN.com

August 8, 2000

Noted ESPN NFL reporter John Clayton has joined ESPN.com as senior writer, providing columns, feature stories and chats with users. In addition to covering the NFL on a daily basis for ESPN.com, he will continue to contribute reports to ESPN's Sunday pre-game show, NFL Countdown, and SportsCenter's Inside the Huddle. Clayton will also continue to serve as an NFL reporter on ESPN Radio Network programs such as The NFL on ESPN Radio and NFL Draft programming. ESPN.com is part of Walt Disney Internet Group (NYSE: DIG).

"John Clayton's knowledge and insight into the NFL has benefited ESPN viewers for years, and how he'll be providing that same invaluable information and analysis to our users," said John Marvel, vice president and executive editor, ESPN.com. "He is one of the most respected NFL reporters around, and we're extremely excited that he has joined our team."

One of Clayton's first ESPN.com initiatives was "Clayton Across America," (http://espn.com/nfl/trainingcamp00/clayton/campsked.html) which began July 19 as Clayton embarked on a 28-day trip of all 31 NFL team training camps. While on the trip, he provides columns and notes from the camps as well as city-by-city postcards. His journey culminates in Nashville for the August 14 Rams-Titans preseason game.

Clayton served as the NFL and Seattle Seahawks beat writer for the Tacoma News Tribune from 1986 to 1998 and an NFL correspondent for The Sporting News from 1980 to 1998. He began his writing career at the Pittsburgh Press as the NFL and the Pittsburgh Steelers beat writer from 1980 to 1986. Clayton continues to serve as a talk show host on KJR Radio in Seattle.

Clayton is a 1976 graduate of Duquesne University in Pittsburgh with a bachelor of arts and science degree in journalism.
