(Editor's note: The following polls were conducted for ESPN's weekly Outside The Lines program that aired Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001. A total of 438 U.S. adults (18+) were randomly selected from the E-Poll online panel and were interviewed between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. EST on Saturday, Sept.15th, 2001. The sample error for these 438 respondents is +/- 5%. )

1. Do you agree with the widespread decisions to postpone or cancel sporting events this weekend?
Yes = 87%
No = 13%

2. Do you believe editorial opinions and the media affected leagues and schools, who did not initially postpone games, to change their decision?
Yes = 69%
No = 31%

3. Some athletes have expressed a lack of desire to play this weekend. Given that many other Americans are working through this tragedy, do you accept the athletes' reluctance to play?
Yes = 88%
No = 12%

4. How fearful are you personally, about gathering in a large crowd to watch an athletic event? Please use a 1-to-5 scale where 5 means “extremely fearful” and 1 means "not at all fearful."
1 = 10% - Not at all fearful
2 = 27%
3 = 46%
4 = 13%
5 = 4% - Extremely fearful

5. Which of the following additional security measures are you willing to accept at a public sporting event?
Metal detectors/X-ray machines = 91%
Armed guards = 68%
Thoroughly searching bags and belongings = 70%
Off-site parking that requires a shuttle bus to event = 46%
None of the above = 5%
