August 1st is the one year anniversary of the death of Vikings Offensive Lineman Korey Stringer during a training camp practice. August 3rd is the one year anniversary of the death of Northwestern Defensive Back Rashidi Wheeler during a voluntary summer workout. He is one of three college football players who died last year during an off-season practice or voluntary workout.

OTL will look at these deaths, as well as the off-season football programs at the University of Miami, Washington State, Texas and Georgia Tech; along with one of the most successul high school football programs over the past 10 years. What is life really like during the off-season for these student athletes who play football? Do these athletes have a chance to be true students as well as football players. Are they being asked to devote too much time to football? ..... Voluntary vs. mandatory workouts. NCAA violations. Player priorities. Changes in programs for safety. All this and much more, in Outside the Line "TRUE COMMITMENT" (tentative title), only on ESPN.

ESPN's Emmy Award-winning Outside the Lines is the network's investigative series, which examines topical issues off the playing field. It debuted in 1990 and has covered a wide variety of topical subjects in sports, including AIDS, steroids, race, religion, sex, memorabilia fraud, sportsmanship and the influence of gangs. The series has won eight Sports Emmy Awards, three CableACE Awards and, in 1997, the Center for the Study of Sport in Society's Excellence in Sports Journalism Award for Breaking the Line - Jackie Robinson's Legacy, which was followed by a live "town meeting" discussion. Additionally, the OTL series won the Gold WorldMedal in the 1999-2000 New York Festivals International Television Programming Awards.
