Tom Hanks: "Cast Away"
|
I'd have to go with Tom Hanks as the leading actor, because he acted. For the majority of the movie, he was in the film by himself. I think everyone felt his plight; he did a great job, without saying much, of letting people know how it felt to be stranded on a desert island. He grew the facial hair, he played the part.

Russell Crowe is my pick here. My wife and I left the theatre chanting "Maximus...Maximus..Maximus..."

This movie was awesome. It reminded me of one of my all-time favorites, "Ben Hur" with Charlton Heston. Crowe is so believable as Maximus that it makes you wish you lived in that period. Or maybe that's just me...

Tom Hanks: "Cast Away"
|
Not only did he create the idea for the movie Cast Away and serve as one of the producers, he brought a character to the screen that might have been one of the biggest challenges any actor could have made. He kept me interested for the hour and a half without having a sexual relationship with the volleyball. (That we know of -- it may have been cut out).

That's tough. Javier Bardem, I didn't see that movie but he's the new heartthrob, isn't he? I think I saw him on "The View." It's tough. I hate to say it because it's like Chris Rock said, "Best actor? Let's just give it to Tom Hanks." But when you think of what he did, losing the weight and all that, that's quite a performance. I know that's just a physical thing but the whole movie depends so much on him and he pulls it off.

In "Gladiator," he was outstanding and really made a mark for himself. Though I am a big Tom Hanks fan.

It's tough. Ed Harris is getting lot of support too. But Crowe should have, could have won for his role in "The Insider" and Hollywood is as into make up calls just as much as the NBA.

The man knows how to scowl, and Joaquin Phoenix so deserved to die. Plus...the line "on my signal...unleash hell." LOVE THAT.
