China wins again, takes men's table tennis doubles

SYDNEY, Australia -- China is taking table tennis doubles to a new level.

In both the men's and the women's doubles competition, all of the finalists were Chinese.

Wang Liqin and Yan Sen defeated teammates Kong Linghui and Liu Guoliang 22-20, 17-21, 21-19, 21-18 Saturday to win the gold medal in men's doubles.

"The first game was very important," Kong said. "If we would have won the first game, we would not have given them the chance even to win one game against us.

"It's very difficult because we are very familiar with each other," Kong said.

China won the women's doubles on Friday night and the silver, too, when Li Ju and Wang Nan beat countrywomen Sun Jin and Yang Ying.

Patrick Chila and Jean-Philippe Gatien of France won the men's bronze by beating Lee Chul-Seung and Yoo Seung-Min of South Korea 22-20, 21-23, 21-19, 21-10.
