Red Wings remain unbeaten in nine games

RECAP | BOX SCORE

CHICAGO (AP) – The Detroit Red Wings are spreading the wealth on offense, and it's resulting in victories.

Sergei Fedorov had two goals and an assist, and Igor Larionov added three assists as the Red Wings routed the Chicago Blackhawks 7-3 on Wednesday night.

Six players scored for Detroit, which extended its season-high unbeaten streak to nine games (7-0-2).

"We're getting a good contribution from everyone," Steve Yzerman said. "Just not to have to rely on one line to do the bulk of the scoring makes it so much easier."

With its recent surge, Detroit trails St. Louis by one point in the Central Division.

"We played pretty good in January and February," Detroit coach Scotty Bowman said. "We've been playing about .750 hockey since the start of the second half."

Fedorov scored his first goal on the power play at 17:58 of the first period. With the game tied at one, Yzerman passed to a cutting Fedorov, who beat Chicago goalie Jocelyn Thibault.

The loss was Chicago's first at the United Center in four games, and dropped its home record to 11-14-2.

Eric Daze scored two goals for the Blackhawks, giving him 23 for the season and extending his goal-scoring streak to five goals in four games. It was also Daze's third two-goal game this season.

But Daze and the Hawks failed to capitalize on their chances.

"We had a chance to get ahead in the game 4-2 and we didn't get the goal," Daze said. "They scored a big goal at the end of the second."

Nicklas Lidstrom's 10th goal of the season with less than three minutes remaining in the second period left the teams tied 3-3.

"I lost Lidstrom on the third goal," Daze said. "And he was all alone in the slot."

After rallying to beat the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night, the importance of getting the tying goal was not lost on the Red Wings.

"We haven't scored a lot of goals," Bowman said. "It was important to tie the game at the end of the second period."

With only 59 seconds elapsed in the third period, Vyacheslav Kozlov fed Fedorov in the slot for his team-leading 30th goal of the season. It was the first of four third-period goals and gave the Red Wings the opportunity to open up the game and play with a lead.

"We were just trying to exchange offensive chances with them," Chicago captain Tony Amonte said. "We played back and forth, give us a chance, give them a chance, and that's not the way you're going to beat them."

Game notes
Amonte entered tied with Jaromir Jagr for the most goals scored during the last three seasons with 118. ... Yzerman has 17 points in his last 17 games and a points total of 37 in 37 games played. ... Detroit goalie Chris Osgood started for the 10th straight time. ... The Blackhawks lead the season series 3-2-0.
