OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) _ Stephane Matteau scored 3:09 into overtime Friday night as the San Jose Sharks won their preseason opener 4-3 over the Phoenix Coyotes.

Matteau redirected a shot by Greg Andrusak from just inside the blue line.

Phoenix's Landon Wilson scored with 1:09 remaining in regulation to send the match into overtime.

Jim Montgomery had two goals for the Sharks before a crowd of 4,289 in the 19,596-seat New Arena, where the Golden State Warriors also play.

Wilson knotted the score after Wyatt Smith won the puck from behind the net and tossed it into a crowd at the top of the crease.

Montgomery's first goal came at 2:37 of the first period. His second, a slap shot from the top of the face-off circle, beat the buzzer at the end of the second period.

Brad Stuart added a power-play goal in the opening minutes of the second period.
