KANATA, Ontario (AP) -- Roberto Luongo isn't too fond of playing in Ottawa. Luongo, who had a 1-14 junior record in Ottawa and Hull, Quebec, was outstanding in his first NHL game in Ottawa on Saturday, making 36 saves in a 1-1 tie with the Senators. The New York Islanders rookie goalie suffered 14 consecutive losses in juniors, including four with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in the 1999 Memorial Cup in Ottawa. "I didn't think about that record at all today," Luongo said. "I just focused on what I had to do." Luongo preserved the tie with strong saves on Wade Redden and Daniel Alfredsson in the final minute. "Luongo's got some sparkles in him once in a while," Islanders coach Butch Goring said. "He's going to be a very bright star. I'm very happy with his progress." The tie snapped a five-game losing streak for New York, but left the Islanders winless in their last 15 against Ottawa (0-11-4), dating to Jan. 6, 1996. Magnus Arvedson tied it with 5:19 remaining when he redirected Radek Bonk's point shot past Luongo. "I've never seen him play before, but their goalie took away the angles really well," Arvedson said. Mariusz Czerkawski gave the Islanders a 1-0 lead when he deked Ottawa defenseman Janne Laukkanen at the blue line, had a pass attempt come back to him and beat goalie Ron Tugnutt high at 9:41 of the third period. The Senators (2-6-2) and Islanders (2-7-1) have only two wins each in their last 10 games. Tugnutt made a few sensational saves, including stopping Josh Green on a breakaway and following with a great save on Vladimir Orszagh's rebound attempt 8:25 into the first period. Luongo survived Ottawa's flurry of chances one minute into the second period, including a shot by Marian Hossa that hit the crossbar. Alfredsson returned to Ottawa's lineup after missing 20 games with torn ligaments in his right knee. The Senators, however, lost 16-year veteran right wing Kevin Dineen who left the game in the first period with a groin injury and did not return.
