EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- The New Jersey Devils had been waiting all season for their offense to have a breakout game.

The Devils reeled off six straight goals on their way to a come-from-behind 7-4 victory over the Senators on Friday night. The seven goals was a season high for a club that had not netted more than five.

"It was nice to see us explode," said Randy McKay who scored twice for the Devils, including the go-ahead-goal 13 seconds into the third period. "We exploded at a great time."

The explosion left goalie Patrick Lalime and the rest of the Senators shell shocked.

"They've got this new series up in Canada where guys play three-on-three hockey," said the Senators' Kevin Dineen. "That's what it seemed to turn into. It was so wide open it was not what you'd expect to see from the New Jersey Devils and the Ottawa Senators.

"We made some really ugly mistakes that cost us the hockey game."

Petr Sykora also scored twice for the Devils. Jay Pandolfo, Scott Niedermayer and Bobby Holik, who returned from a three-game suspension, had goals for New Jersey, which extended its home unbeaten streak to 12 games.

The Devils have not lost at Continental Airlines Arena since their home opener, a 7-5 defeat to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Oct. 7. They have gone 10-0-2 at home since then.

New Jersey is approaching the club record 15-game unbeaten streak at home set from Jan. 8 to March 15, 1997.

The unbeaten streak seemed at an end when the Senators built a 3-1 lead late in the second period.

After McKay opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 10:04 of the first period, Ottawa went on a run with three consecutive goals. Rob Zamuner pulled the Senators even when he put in his own rebound at 13:58 of the first.

Ottawa continued to press in the second, getting goals from Patrick Traverse at 5:56 and Vaclav Prospal at 14:47.

Then it all came undone as Sykora scored his first goal only 27 seconds later. Pandolfo got a key score with 8.5 seconds remaining in the period to even the score at 3-3.

The Devils continued the blitz in the third, led by McKay's goal on the first shift of the period.

"That was a great momentum builder for this hockey club," McKay said. "We had a good end of the second period to bounce back and we just rolled in the third."

The Devils continued to pour it on with goals by Sykora, his second, at 3:52 and Holik at 4:30 for a 6-3 lead that drove Lalime to the bench. Mike Fountain surrendered a goal to Niedermayer at 7:00.

"I think the guys continued to skate especially after we fell behind," said Devils coach Robbie Ftorek. "All of sudden we were moving the puck better and things started to click and fall into place."

Shawn McEachern of the Senators scored the final goal at 13:09.

The game had a nasty edge with three fights with Ottawa's Andre Roy the central figure in all three brawls.
