EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) -- Goaltender Jocelyn Thibault helped the Chicago Blackhawks end their four-game losing skid. But he couldn't have done it without Doug Gilmour. Thibault made 33 stops, including 27 in the second and third periods, to lead the Blackhawks to a 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night. Gilmour continued his strong play against the Oilers with a two-goal performance. Gilmour now has 31 goals in 70 career games against the Oilers. "We're working hard as a team," Thibault said. "But we're not very confident right now. We gave them a lot of shots, but not many two-on-ones." The Oilers were outshot 9-6 in the first period in falling behind 1-0. "We weren't prepared," said Oilers defenseman Roman Hamrlik. "We weren't ready. We talked about this game for two days. It shouldn't have happened." Hamrlik recognized that the Oilers shouldn't have taken the Blackhawks lightly, despite their 4-12-4 record coming into the game. He admitted the Hawks have been frustrated by their poor start. "There's some pride in here," he said. "It's been a little embarrassing. "It's more of a wakeup call for everybody. It's going to get a lot worse, unless we turn it around." Gilmour banked in a shot off goalie Tommy Salo from the side of the net to open the scoring on a power play at 15:57 of the first period. He made it 2-0 off an excellent pass from Eric Daze at 1:43 of the second. It was Gilmour's sixth goal of the season. Alexei Zhamnov broke a 2-2 tie at 9:30 of the third when he took a slapshot from the top of the faceoff circle following an excellent rush by Tony Amonte. Doug Weight and Chad Kilger scored for the Oilers. Kilger's goal was his second of the season. "Thibault had a great game," said Kilger. "We had a lot of shots. But he made the saves. I've been getting a lot of ice time in the last four or five games. I'll keep on working hard." The Oilers are 6-9-6 in the Western Conference and lost wingers Ethan Moreau and Mike Grier in the second period. Moreau dislocated a rib and Grier is out indefinitely with a shoulder injury. Backup goalie Bill Ranford also stayed home when the team left on a postgame flight to Windsor, Ont., for a game Friday night in Detroit because of an inner ear infection.
