PHOENIX (AP) -- Jeremy Roenick was itching to play again after serving out a five-game suspension, and it showed. Roenick scored two third-period goals -- one shorthanded, the other on a breakaway -- as the Phoenix Coyotes rallied to tie the Washington Capitals 2-2 Saturday night. "It was a relief to be back. I felt like a little kid out there. Two weeks is a long time to be out," said Roenick, who was suspended for an Oct. 8 slash that left Chicago's Tony Amonte with a 13-stitch cut on his chin and cost Roenick $104,166 in lost salary. "I'm just glad we were able to get a good game when I got back and a well-earned point," added Roenick. "He's been foaming at the mouth the last week," Coyotes coach Bob Francis said of Roenick. "It's good to have him back. "We knew we were in a tough predicament tonight because the Caps were coming off getting a shellacking and were ready to play," added Francis. "And we played (Friday night) in Los Angeles so we didn't have a lot of time to prepare." Roenick's breakaway goal on the power play with 10:33 remaining allowed Phoenix to remain unbeaten at home (3-0-1). The Coyotes are off to the best start (5-1-3) in the history of the franchise, which joined the NHL in 1979 as the Winnipeg Jets. Peter Bondra and Chris Simon scored for Washington, which was coming off a 7-1 loss at Anaheim and is now 2-3-2 on the season. "The first two periods tonight, we were fine," said Capitals coach Ron Wilson. "We shouldn't have lost a 2-0 lead, but we'll take the point." Roenick cut Phoenix's deficit in half with a shorthanded goal 3:06 into the third period, finishing off a nice backhanded pass across the goalmouth from captain Keith Tkachuk. Roenick forced overtime when his shot from the right wing bounced off a defender's leg and into the net for his third goal of the season. Bondra opened the scoring with an unassisted, short-handed goal, his sixth of the year. Coyotes goaltender Mikhail Shtalenkov went into the left corner to retrieve the puck and fanned while attempting to send it up ice. Bondra picked up the puck while streaking by Shtalenkov and scored on a wraparound into an empty net at 4:36. Simon took a feed from Adam Oates and beat Shtalenkov with a wrist shot from the slot 33 seconds into the second period.
