Flames complete Alberta sweep in OT

  RECAP | BOX SCORE

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) -- The Calgary Flames have gotten used to winning games in overtime.

Marc Savard's second goal, a deflection 35 seconds into the extra period, gave the Calgary Flames a 3-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night. The victory also extended their NHL record for overtime wins in a season to 11.

"We've done well in overtime all season and we refocused for that," Savard said.

Bill Lindsay also scored for Calgary, which won its NHL-record 11th overtime game. The Flames also won on consecutive nights for the first time this season _ they beat the Oilers 4-2 Friday night.

"We kept battling and battling," Calgary goalie Fred Brathwaite said. "Those were two emotional games in the Battle of Alberta."

Jarome Iginla assisted on both of Savard's goals to extend his points streak to 10 games.

"That was huge for us," Savard said. "We haven't done too well in back-to-back games. We hung with it. We sat back in the second period and left Freddie."

Ryan Smyth and Todd Marchant scored for Edmonton.

Marchant tied it 2-2 with 1 minute left in regulation, but Savard got the game-winner in overtime as he deflected Iginla's shot past goalie Tommy Salo.

Savard also scored 9:05 into the game on a slap shot on a 2-on-1 break.

The Flames took a 2-0 lead at 11:02 of the first when a shot by Rene Corbet deflected in off Lindsay.

Smyth deflected Jason Smith's slap shot from the blue line past Fred Brathwaite at 19:44 of the second period.

Calgary moved ahead of the idle Anaheim Mighty Ducks into ninth place in the Western Conference and within four points of the eighth-place Oilers and San Jose Sharks.

"The guys stuck with it," Savard said. "We're right back in the playoff race."

Brathwaite made 28 saves, while Salo stopped 20 shots.

"Freddie rises to the occasion playing against his old team," the Oilers' Bill Guerin said of Brathwaite.

"It's very disappointing. I thought we really controlled the entire thing. We made a few mistakes early and it cost us. But we didn't get down."
