| PFW: 49ers scouting report ESPN.com How they finished: 10-5 (heading into final game), First place in NFC West. Defense: Jim Mora's unit has plenty of speed and athleticism, but injuries to FS Zack Bronson and LB Jamie Winborn have taken their toll, particularly in zone-defense passing situations. The Niners ranked in the bottom third in QB sack percentage heading into their final regular-season game, but the defensive line has applied decent pressure overall. Mora makes excellent adjustments. Offense: With talented weapons led by WR Terrell Owens, QB Jeff Garcia and the one-two punch of RBs Garrison Hearst and Kevan Barlow, the Niners' balanced attack has no problem moving the chains -- except in the red zone, which could be cause for concern. Garcia has been more effective out of the pocket, and the long ball seldom has been a part of his repertoire. Players to watch: Owens is the Niners' best offensive performer, and San Francisco must find a way to get the ball in his hands frequently. That said, the Niners' other receivers — particularly WR Tai Streets and TE Eric Johnson, who has become more of a weapon in recent weeks -- must also make their presence felt. On defense, keep a close eye on LB Julian Peterson, who can pitch in effectively at a number of positions. Key to success: The offense needs to be consistently effective both on the ground and through the air -- particularly inside the opposition's 20. On defense, tighter pass coverage, especially in the late stages of games, is a must.
