| PHOENIX -- Norv Turner has talked with Arizona coach Dave
McGinnis about becoming offensive coordinator of the Cardinals and
says is interested in the job.
"I don't want to downplay it and I don't want to make too big a
deal of it," Turner told The Arizona Republic. "Dave and I have
had a conversation. We are going to talk again. I do have an
interest."
Turner, fired as head coach of the Washington Redskins in
December after the team failed to make the playoffs, was a highly
successful offensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys.
In that post, he is credited with developing Troy Aikman into
one of the NFL's best quarterbacks. McGinnis believes that Jake
Plummer, struggling after four seasons in the league, could benefit
greatly from Turner's presence.
Turner, however, still is exploring the possibility of becoming
a head coach.
"I would like to be a head coach, no question, and there are
still some things happening this year," Turner said. "But I've
been in this league long enough to know that if you make a
commitment to somebody, you go and do a good job for them. It might
be for one year, it might be for four years.
"But one thing that is important to me ... is picking a place
where I want to be for an extended period of time. In my
background, the shortest I've ever stayed anyplace is three
years."
McGinnis said he wants to know what Turner's career goals are.
"I'd have to be interested in Norv because of what he is, what
he does," McGinnis said. "We've had a preliminary talk. We will
talk some more. Norv is not in any hurry to make a decision. He's
going to explore a lot of things, but whether he ends up being the
guy or not, I want to talk to him."
McGinnis, who has a new four-year contract to coach the
Cardinals after taking over on an interim bases seven games into
the season, fired offensive coordinator Marc Trestman and three
