Saints 24, Bills 6
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
Sammy Knight got his third interception, setting up the Saints for a third-quarter TD that put them up 17-6. Saints safety Knight. Matched a franchise record with his three interceptions, two of which led to scores. Rob Johnson tends to hold the ball and he's not a quick reader; he needs game-type conditions to learn to get rid of it more quickly. It's going to be a work-in-progress for the Bills -- and a long season in Buffalo.
UP NEXT:Saints (1-0) vs. 49ers (1-0)   |    Bills (0-1) at Dolphins (0-0)

Bengals 23, Patriots 17
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
Jon Kitna found tight end Tony McGee uncovered down the middle for a 25-yard TD pass that made it 23-10 with six seconds left in the third quarter. Bengals RB Corey Dillon. A solid start with a workmanlike 104 yards and one TD on 24 carries. Let's wait until the Bengals play Baltimore and Tennessee -- they're in a tough division. Let's see how Kitna and this offense do against those defenses. If they can do well against those teams, then let's take them seriously.
UP NEXT:Patriots (0-1) at Panthers (1-0)   |    Bengals (1-0) at Titans

Seahawks 9, Browns 6
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
Rian Lindell kicked a 52-yard FG with three seconds left. Lindell. He scored all nine points for the Seahawks, and his game-winner was into the wind. The Seahawks have a legit running back in Ricky Watters, but their receivers are young and it's going to take a while. You're not going to see an explosive, high-scoring Seattle team this year.
UP NEXT:Seahawks (1-0) vs. Chiefs (0-1)   |    Browns (0-1) at Steelers (0-1)

Bucs 10, Cowboys 6
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
On fourth down, John Lynch intercepted a pass by Quincy Carter at the Bucs' 14 with 1:17 left. Lynch. His four tackles and crucial interception were a highlight from a very good defensive effort from the Bucs. I don't think you saw anything different ... Brad Johnson had good numbers, but the Bucs are still kind of paint-by-the-numbers -- lots of short dink-and-dunk passes.
UP NEXT:Bucs (1-0) vs. Eagles (0-1)   |    Cowboys (0-1) at Lions (0-1)

Packers 28, Lions 6
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
The Packers scored 21 points on their first 10 plays in the opening quarter. The Lions never mounted any rally. Packers RB Ahman Green. His 83-yard TD in first quarter set the tone, and he finished with 157 yards and two TDs on 17 carries. Brett Favre had an excellent game; he's now 11-0 against Detroit at Lambeau Field. The running game was outstanding, and the defense caused turnovers. It was a complete team game.
UP NEXT:Lions (0-1) vs. Cowboys (0-1)   |    Packers (1-0) at Giants (0-0)

Raiders 27, Chiefs 24
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
Sebastian Janikowski kicked a 31-yard FG with 15 seconds remaining. Raiders QB Rich Gannon. Went 31 of 46 for 341 yards and stayed focused despite turnover problems. The Raiders showed they can win on the road, that they can win in a tough environment and that they can come back when they're down. They made a loud statement that they can go on the road and win in a place where they normally don't win.
UP NEXT:Raiders (1-0) vs. Jets (0-1)   |    Chiefs (0-1) at Seahawks (1-0)

Panthers 24, Vikings 13
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
Chris Weinke finished off a fourth-quarter drive with a 1-yard sneak to make it 24-13. Panthers rookie QB Weinke. He was calm and executed (13 of 22) much better than NFL rookies generally do. Who would have thought that with three new starters in the secondary, the Panthers could hold Randy Moss to one catch and grab three interceptions?
UP NEXT:Panthers (1-0) vs. Patriots (0-1)   |    Vikings (0-1) at Ravens (1-0), MNF

Colts 45, Jets 24
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
The Colts scored four touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 31-14 halftime lead. Colts RB Edgerrin James. He rushed for 135 yards and two scores on 28 carries. The Jets just need to keep learning Herman Edwards' system. They're going to have to get more pressure on the quarterback and create turnovers on defense.
UP NEXT:Colts (1-0) vs. Broncos (0-0)   |    Jets (0-1) at Raiders (1-0)

Jaguars 21, Steelers 3
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
The Jaguars scored three touchdowns in the second quarter for a 21-3 halftime lead; nobody scored again. Jaguars WR Jimmy Smith. After offseason abdominal surgery, Smith remarkably had eight catches for 126 yards and two TDs. The Steelers really didn't do anything offensively. For Pittsburgh to be successful on offense, Jerome Bettis has to be running the ball well and Kordell Stewart has to be making plays. And neither really happened in this game.
UP NEXT:Steelers (0-1) vs. Browns (0-1)   |    Jaguars (1-0) at Bears (0-1)

Ravens 17, Bears 6
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
Terry Allen scored on a 1-yard run early in the fourth quarter for a 17-6 lead that held up. Ravens LB Peter Boulware, who had 11 tackles, including two sacks and two forced fumbles. What people are going to do is to really come after Elvis Grbac with the blitz. He could get hit a lot, and he'll need to stay healthy. It's hard to win and go to a Super Bowl if you can't run the football.
UP NEXT:Bears (0-1) vs. Jaguars (1-0)   |    Ravens (1-0) vs. Vikings (0-1), MNF

Rams 20, Eagles 17
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
Jeff Wilkins kicked a 26-yard FG in overtime. Rams' defense, which included a big effort from linebacker London Fletcher (seven tackles, 1 sack for 6-yard loss). The Rams' defense played physically, they played fast and they did a good job tackling. They did a good job keeping everything in front of them -- they didn't give the Eagles any big plays.
UP NEXT:Rams (1-0) vs. Falcons (0-1)   |    Eagles (0-1) at Bucs (1-0)

Chargers 30, Redskins 3
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
After falling behind 20-0 at halftime, all the Redskins could manage was a field goal in the third quarter. Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson. Unaffected by his holdout, Tomlinson had a franchise rookie record 36 carries for 113 yards and two TDs. I think Norv Turner sat back, smoked a cigar, drank a glass of champagne and toasted himself. It was a great win for Norv, and he's been preparing for it for a while.
UP NEXT:Redskins (0-1) vs. Cardinals (0-0)   |   Chargers (1-0) BYE

49ers 16, Falcons 13
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
Jose Cortez drilled a 24-yard FG in overtime. San Francisco QB Jeff Garcia, who passed for 335 yards and a TD. Michael Vick didn't throw the ball very well; he didn't complete a pass (in four attempts). While he wasn't effective throwing, he made some nice plays running the ball.
UP NEXT:Falcons (0-1) at Rams (1-0)   |   49ers (1-0) at Saints (1-0)

Dolphins 31, Titans 23
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ...
The Titans defense doesn't show up. The NFL's best defense against the pass last season were unable to stop the Dolphins and didn't sack QB Jay Fiedler once. The Miami defense, which picked up three interceptions and allowed just eight total yards in the first quarter. They also didn't allow Tennessee to pick up a first down until midway through the second quarter.
UP NEXT:Dolphins (1-0) vs. Bills (0-1)   |   Titans (0-1) vs. Bengals (1-0)

Broncos 31, Giants 20
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ...
The Broncos recovered the onside kick after Kerry Collins threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to Marcellus Rivers with 1:51 remaining. Terrell Davis, who rushed for 101 yards on 21 carries in his return to the Broncos' lineup. Davis had missed 24 games due to injury since his MVP season in 1998.
UP NEXT:Broncos (1-0) vs. Colts (1-0)   |   Packers (1-0) vs. Giants (0-1)
