Working the WAC Hawaiian style

Editor's note: Louisiana Tech's Brooke Lassiter, a senior guard and two-year co-captain, will share a weekly diary with ESPN.com throughout the season.

Jan. 7, 2002

Hello everyone! I hope this finds you all doing well and sticking with those new resolutions that we all have committed ourselves to. School is back in full swing and the town of Ruston has become more lively upon the arrival of the Tech students.

Brooke Lassiter
Brooke Lassiter averaged 10.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 5.0 assists last season.
This past week was a great one for our basketball team as we picked up two more conference wins and elevated our play in a few areas that needed some improvement. Cheryl Ford continued to play well for us this week and I, for one, could not be more proud of her and the maturity she has shown the last two weeks on the court. Her inside presence will be huge for us during our conference season and throughout the postseason.

It was great to be back in Ruston for a couple of home games. The WAC has us traveling to all ends of the earth and I feel like we are always on the road. I was highly anticipating our return to Ruston to play in front of our great fans and to catch up on the scoop while we were gone.

It was also great to see Ali and Lindsey back in action as practice resumed. We missed you both on the trip and wish you could have been with us. Practice just wasn't the same without you.

One of my favorite things about our games in the TAC (Thomas Assembly Center) is hearing the "Hoop Troop" play all of their great songs. These guys truly are something special and should be commended for the job they do. Thanks Mr. Robken and your whole crew for the job you continue to do!

I had the pleasure of hosting my best friend, Rebecca, at my house this past weekend in Ruston. It was great to catch up on all that we have missed with each other lately and to laugh about all of the stupid things we did growing up as neighbors and best friends. I think it is probably a good thing the two of us do not attend the same school because the campus and city would definitely be in trouble!

Well, I need to end for now and finish packing my bag for another trip out West. I'm pretty excited about this one because we are going to Hawaii to play and this will be my first time there. I've been trying to work on my tan a little, but it's pretty safe to say that I will look like milk compared to the natives of Hawaii. I'll throw a little sun block in my bag along with my grass skirt and coconut bra. Just kidding about that one!

I hope you all have an amazing week filled with laughter and smiles. I look forward to sharing the details of our Hawaiian excursion with you all next week. See you later!

Brooke
