Learning from a loss

Editor's note: Louisiana Tech's Brooke Lassiter, a senior guard and two-year co-captain, will share a weekly diary with ESPN.com throughout the season.

Dec. 4, 2001

I am writing this entry as I finish watching Brett Favre dismantle the Jacksonville defense with some unbelievable passes on Monday Night Football. I am a huge football fan and Brett Favre is one of my favorite players because of the passion and toughness with which he plays every snap. What a competitor he is and he looks nice, too!

Brooke Lassiter averaged 10.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 5.0 assists last season.
We traveled home this afternoon from Orlando after playing in the Honda Elite 4 Classic. As I arrived at my house, I was greeted by several loads of laundry and a couple of homework assignments to finish. I always dread coming home from a road trip and having to unpack and get back in the normal routine, but that is just part of the drill.

Our trip was fun except for the outcome of the game (a 76-64 loss to then-No. 12 Duke), but hopefully we will learn from our mistakes and make some adjustments for our next opponent, top-ranked Connecticut. There is no reason for us to panic about our recent losses, but we need to move in a positive direction and gain some confidence as we get ready to start our conference schedule. I look forward to playing in Hartford and trying to improve on our weak points.

On a lighter note, I was so excited that my parents were able to make the trip to Orlando to watch the game and spend some time with me. I am blessed to have such great support from them and it was very special to have them there to share in the excitement. I do not think I will ever forget the look on my mom's face as we rode the "Tower of Terror" at MGM; it was priceless!

I have to give Stephen Pate, our film guy, a little grief for exiting the roller coaster after we were strapped in and ready to ride. We now know that he is not just afraid of flying!

Classes have resumed for the winter quarter and my schedule has now become a little more demanding than it has been the previous two weeks. I don't know when I will be able to do any Christmas shopping but the holiday will be here before I know it and I need to get a move on things before it is too late!

I must end for now but will see you all next week.

Good luck with your shopping everyone and have a wonderful week!

Brooke
