On March 29, 1998, the Tennessee women's basketball team beat Louisiana Tech for the NCAA title to cap a perfect 39-0 season. Just two other teams -- the 1995 Connecticut Huskies (35-0) and the 1986 Texas Longhorns (34-0) -- had posted undefeated seasons in women's NCAA history. Still, Tech coach Leon Barmore said he had never seen a better team than the 1997-98 Lady Vols. "That's the greatest women's basketball team I've ever seen in all my years of coaching," the 16-year coaching veteran said. So before we tip off the 1999-2000 season, let's decide which team -- the '95 Huskies or the '98 Lady Vols, the only teams to go undefeated in the past 10 years -- was the best team of the 1990s as we prepare to crown the first champion of the new millennium. And of course, when you're done thinking about the ultimate fantasy matchup, let reality set back in with a home-and-home Tennessee-Connecticut duel in 2000. Tennessee hosts UConn on Jan. 8 and the Huskies host the Lady Vols on Feb. 2.
