OUTLOOK First round: Lost to Mississippi State, 94-60
The Peahens, a No. 13 seed in 1999, upset regular-season champion Fairfield to win this season's Metro Atlantic Athletic title, their second straight and third in the past four years. St. Peter's is once again led by junior center Leah Cromer, the 1999 MACC tournament MVP who scored 15 points in 15 minutes off the bench last week, as well as senior guard Lawanda Greene, this season's tourney MVP and leading scorer (13.6 ppg) who scored 12 points in the MAAC final, and senior center Mercy Aghedo, who grabbed 16 rebounds in the MACC final. Defense was the key -- and has been increasingly more fine-tuned as of late -- for St. Peter's in the MAAC tourney as the Peahens held Fairfield's Gail Strumpf, the conference Player of the Year, to five points, 15 below her average. Key stat: St. Peter's is 0-5 all-time at the Big Dance.
