Led by SEC leading scorer and freshman LaToya Thomas, the Lady Bulldogs lost their "darkhorse" status after upsetting then-No. 15 Auburn and second-ranked Georgia in the SEC tournament to reach their first conference title game. From a 74-72 victory over Louisiana Tech on Nov. 22 to the near upset of Tennessee in the SEC final, Mississippi State has proven it's a team on the rise, but its youth and lack of NCAA Tournament experience will probably hurt the Bulldogs' chances of a long postseason stay. Key stat: This is the Lady Bulldogs second trip to the Big Dance. They lost to N.C. State 76-57 in '99.
