Hampton first-year coach Patricia Bibbs, who previously coached at Grambling for 13 seasons, doubled her pleasure in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Association tournament title game on March 11. In the Lady Pirates' 66-64 victory over favored Norfolk State, Hampton earned its first bid to the NCAA Tournament and gave Bibbs her 300th career coaching victory. Along the way, the fifth-seeded Pirates won three games over higher-seeded teams to earn the automatic bid. Stingy full-court press (Hampton forced 17 in the MEAC title game) and a couple of talented scorers lead the way, including tournament MVP Jessica Faust, and freshman LaShondra Dixon, who scored 23 points in the championship game, including the game-winner with 12 seconds to play.
