ESPN.com No wonder Edwina Brown has such a good handle on the ball. The Texas senior has loved to dribble the basketball since she was just 6 years old.
When asked how she got started in basketball, Brown said, "I just started to dribble a basketball -- constantly -- in front of my house, just for fun. My mother says I'd just go outside alone, dribbling, bouncing the ball back and forth, back and forth in front of the house." Brown recounted her first hoops experience while completing a survey for ESPN.com. More than 20 players were asked to participate, and the Tournament Dish will continue to roll out the Bio Rhythms -- a fun and humorous look at the athlete by the athlete -- throughout the women's NCAA Tournament. For more on Brown, check our her responses below: Favorite food: Mexican. Favorite TV show: Any basketball game. Other than basketball, I really don't watch much TV at all. Favorite movie: Hurricane or the Bone Collector. Favorite book: I Kissed Dating Goodbye. How did you get started playing basketball? At age 6, I just started to dribble a basketball -- constantly -- in front of my house, just for fun. My mother says I'd just go outside alone, dribbling, bouncing the ball back and forth, back and forth in front of the house. I began playing in the third grade in a pee-wee league, because I just wanted to play with the boys, because they could always run faster and jump higher, and I just wanted to prove that I could be the best. So I just played with the best around. What is your best memory or moment on the court? Our 71-68 comeback win this season against No. 3 seed Oklahoma in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 tournament. We outscored Oklahoma 17-3 in the final six minutes of the game, and I was fortunate to score on a steal and layup with 17 seconds to go and hit a free throw with just a few seconds left to help us to the win. I felt like I was able to significantly contribute to a really important win. Do you have any pregame rituals? I'm not a particularly superstitious athlete! I do, however, always have my right foot and ankle taped before my left one before every game and every practice. Who is the best player you've ever faced? Tennessee's Tamika Catchings. Which player -- man or woman -- would you most like to take one-on-one? My athletic idol is Scottie Pippen. I would be happy just to meet him, never mind go one-on-one with the player I regard as a legend. Person you'd most like to meet? Again, it's Scottie Pippen. Tell us something we don't know about you: That I'm very proud to become the first member of my immediate family to graduate from college.
