BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- Auburn found its shooting touch one game too late.

Tasha Hamilton scored 18 points Tuesday night to help the Tigers (No. 10 ESPN/USA Today, No. 8 AP) rebound from their first loss of the season with a 96-71 victory over UAB.

The Tigers (6-1), who lost 77-65 at No. 9 Penn State on Saturday, shot a season-best 60 percent against UAB as five players scored in double figures.

They shot 65 percent in the first half while opening a 55-27 halftime lead.

"Our first half of basketball was the type of basketball we need to play," Auburn coach Joe Ciampi said. "We did all the things we need to win games."

The Tigers used a 14-0 run in the first half to open their big lead. After an 8-0 run pulled the Blazers (4-3) within 14 in the second half, Auburn answered with an 11-0 run to put the game away.

Shana Askew added 16 points for the Tigers, while LeCoe Willingham had 13, Kris Bernath 11 and Lori Nero 10.

Auburn senior Conswella Sparrow scored eight points and became the 18th player in school history to pass the 1,000-point mark.

UAB was just 8-of-20 from the field in the first half, but finished at 49 percent for the game, including 10-of-27 from 3-point range.

Auburn outrebounded UAB 39-18 and forced 15 turnovers. The Tigers also had eight steals -- four by LaRita Spencer.

The Tigers were also able to hold Deanna Jackson, one of the nation's top scorers with a 21.8 average, to 12 points.

"Jackson is the type of player that you have to focus on out on defense and that is what we did tonight," Ciampi said. "She can do so much with the ball, so you always have to know where she is on the court."

Holly Holland had 17 points to lead UAB, while Lisa Jackson added 12 and Michelle Smith 10.
