RICHMOND, Virginia (Ticker) -- Nikki Teasley scored 24 points off the bench and LaQuanda Barksdale added 21 as No. 12 North Carolina had a big second half and defeated Richmond, 106-80, in the consolation game of the Wachovia Women's Invitational. Freshman Jennifer Thomas contributed 18 points off the bench for North Carolina (5-2), which shot 56 percent (20-of-36) from the field and outscored Richmond, 56-30, in the second half. The substitutes for the Tar Heels outscored Richmond's bench, 50-18. Candice Edwards recorded 21 points and nine rebounds and Kim Hairston added 14 points for Richmond (2-4), which shot just 35.5 percent (11-of-31) in the second half. Thomas scored nine points as North Carolina opened the second half with a 21-2 run and built a 71-55 lead with 12:15 left. Edwards scored 19 points in the first half, when Richmond battled to a 50-50 tie. North Carolina won the only previous meeting, 77-72 in 1995.
